Letterpress Printing
Letterpress Show Posters are some of my favorite things in the world to do. I tend to eschew the computer for these, and it’s a beautiful marriage between music and craft.
A lot of the linoleum blocks that I cut are done as “reductive cuts”. This means that I will cut into the linoleum to create the first image that I want to print, print that run, and then I will cut away at the same linoleum block again to do the next run.
And unlike offset printing or your inkjet printer, with letterpress printing, each color printed is done as a separate press run.
So, to sum all of this up, when I begin printing a poster, I may have started with a solid block of linoleum or wood, but by the end of the entire press run, I might have next to nothing left of the block and I may have cleaned the ink off of my press at least seven times!
The result is an original keepsake that is a truly limited edition.
